This is a very personal question and one that every person must figure out for oneself. However, there are a few guideposts that can guide you in the right direction.
- Do you love yoga? If so, then what better treat than to do a yoga teacher training program and do yoga all day?! Every day I reflect on how lucky I am to teach a yoga teacher training program (YTT). I get to play all day and get inspired by beautiful people growing and changing. If you love yoga, not only will you truly enjoy the course but you will also enjoy teaching it. I would say this is the number one reason why someone should decide to do the training.
- Are you inspired to learn? As with any training program you will be the most successful if you have the desire and dedication to learn. A good yoga training program will help to support and guide you on the journey to becoming the best instructor possible but you need to be inspired and motivated as well.
- If you’ve been thinking about it for awhile… just do it already!! From my experience, I find that most people think about taking the training for 3 years before they actually do! Can you believe that? And you know what I’ve heard every single one of those people say once they actually pull the trigger, “Why didn’t I do this sooner?!”
- Don’t let fear stop you. If you haven’t done the course because you think you won’t be a good instructor or you don’t think you’re strong enough or students won’t like you or ….. (insert fear here). Fear is never a good reason to not do something. You never know unless you try. Also, let me tell you, every person I’ve ever met has had these same fears about teaching yoga. I can almost promise you that your favourite yoga instructor had these same fears (or still has them). And isn’t part of the yoga practice about trying new things? Overcoming fears?
